Abak Local Government Council of Akwa Ibom State has disbursed N32.2 million in business grants to 156 beneficiaries from two clans in the area under the second tranche of its economic empowerment programme.
The initiative, aimed at boosting small and medium-scale enterprises (MSMEs) and strengthening the local economy, is part of the council’s ongoing efforts to promote entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods across the area.
In November 2025, the council had doled out the 27.6 million in business support grants under the first tranche to 138 indigenes drawn from 98 villages in Midim, Otoro, and Ediene Clans of the area.

The Chairman of Abak Local Government Area, Mrs. Ime Effiong Charles, disbursed grant to indigenes of Abak and Afaha Obong clans as part of the council’s community empowerment programme.
.Mrs. Charles, speaking during the event at Abak Council Secretariat on Monday, December 15, 2025, thanked God for helping her to fulfill one of the electioneering promises, which is anchored on empowering women, youths, and men, noting, “Empowering women is empowering the community.”
She urged the beneficiaries to invest the N200,000 each in meaningful businesses, saying that Abak women derive greater strength from palm fruit processing and small-medium enterprises.
The Council’s Chairman announced that the council will undertake youth empowerment scheme in 2026.
The Council Vice Chairman, Dr. Mfon Udoudom described Mrs. Charles as a “jinx breaker,” and being the first female executive Chairman of Abak to perform creditably in different development sectors.
Other dignitaries, including House Leader Hon. Xavier Timothy Titus, Deputy Leader, Hon. Michael Udo Uko, and Clan Heads, Obong Eventus Charles Umoh and Chief Ifiok Umanah, lauded her commitment to the progress of Abak, pledging to support her second term bid.
Speaking for the beneficiaries, Mr. Edet Isonguyo and Mary Okokon Daniel expressed gratitude to the council’s Chairman for the “unprecedented” support, and prayed God’s continued wisdom and protection for the Chairman.
