Two Akwa Ibom persons have departed for China for advanced training on ”Promotion of Economic and Technical Cooperation among countries.”

Sponsored by Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, the trainees form part of the 1,000 youths expanded for the overseas training.

The two trainees are Uduakobong Friday Akpan and Ibiangake Akaninyene Otong.

Dr. Idem, who had surpassed the initial 100, explained that the training was to make them self-reliant to competing with their counterparts across the world.

‘‘The all-expense-paid foreign advanced training initiative is now taking a different dimension as I have expanded my sponsorship target to 1,000 youths after surpassing my initial target of sponsoring 100 youths abroad.

‘‘I am making this huge commitment believing that the experience will expose Akwa Ibom youths to relevant skills needed for optimum efficiency and global competitiveness,’’ the Member of Parliament stated.

The Chairman, House Committee on Public Procurement described the world as a global village, saying ‘‘so there’s need for you to be exposed to modern technology to be able to compete with their counterparts globally, so wherever you have an opportunity to work, you will not lag behind.”

According to him, ‘‘I’ve taken this step because what is helping me today to record these milestones is the series of trainings and exposure I’ve garnered over the years across the globe, and it is my desire that they will do better than me.

The Letter of Nomination and Sponsorship to Training in China,” reads in part “As a participant in the training, you’re entitled to a travelling allowance, but beyond that, your experience there will put you on a pedestal to compete favourably with your counterparts across the globe.”

He advised them to be of good conduct as ambassadors of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria.

“I wish you a safe stay throughout the training period and journey mercies, to and from China. Congratulations,” he added.

Reactions by members of the public

However, some people using their social media handles have reacted to the gesture by the Ukanafun-born lawmaker.

John Essien wrote ‘‘Even when others are busy campaigning you are busy developing your people”

Usoro Ndifreke noted ‘‘There’ nothing person go tell me, this man would become a governor of this state, I would support him, aswear,. Nsuto mkpo”

Utitofon Idara remarked ‘‘Our next governor after Umoh Eno” while Patience Alban penned ”The performing MP, please extend the small gesture to some of us that are non-indigenes na, at least we are still from AKS.

Chaplain-Peters Ediongsenyene stated ‘‘Congratulations to them” while Solomon Effiong posited ”Weldone, sir. Pls, sir, how do you do it??

Elijah Akaninyene wrote ”Abeg, do come become Governor make our dear state industries state abeg.”
