An All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Larry Esin, says it is not ideal for a governor’s job to be a white collar but a blue collar one.
Esin who stated this when he declared his interest to vie for governorship slot under APC on Wednesday in Uyo vowed to remain a blue collar governor, if voted into office, during the 2023 general elections.
The development economist explained ”I won’t sit in air-conditioned office to take decisions on governance. I won’t fly in any private aircraft rather I will join commercial aircraft. From here, I will enter toilets and move to boarding room to see how things are working. Where things are not properly fixed, I will query those involved.
”A Malaysian President has been using commercial aircraft. When he was asked why he flies in commercial aircraft, he answered that this has made him to feel what the people feel and helps him to identify with the plights of the masses.’’

The tourism consultant said ”I would be a blue collar governor. I will sit and discuss with the people. I will interact with the people so as to find out their problems. The people must feel the government. For one week, we will shift government to the local government headquarters as to hear from the people at the grassroots.
According to him, ”My desire to serve you as Governor of Akwa Ibom is borne primarily out of a yearning to give back to the many, who have sacrificed so much that so few of us might have a better life.
”I am referring here to the men and women, who make up a critical component of our State’s wealth equation, but who continue to lack the basic necessities of life, i.e. food security, clean water, healthcare, security, equal protection under the law, and quality education for your children. These are fundamental entitlements of citizenship and the basic needs for a productive life.
”I was born into the strife and dreams of Nigeria’s independence decade, the 1960s; I have tested war and the bitterness of poverty, and like many of you, I have been consumed by the frustration of my inability as an individual to further the socio-economic development of our dear State,’’ he added.
