    Abak Local Govt to establish palm oil mills, grade rural roads

    In a bid to enhance empowerment of the womenfolk, Abak Local Government Council in Akwa Ibom State plans to establish palm oil mills in the 12 electoral wards in the area.

    Speaking in an interview with some journalists, the Chairman of Abak, Mrs Ime Effiong Charles said this would help the people mainly the women who deal in oil palm business from the area traditionally known as the palm oil belt region.

    In addition, she pledged to grade some rural roads in the 12 wards of the area for easy evacuation of agricultural products to urban cities for sale.

    The Chairman who promised to do more to galvanise the development hub of the area stated that she was driven by passion to embark on the projects.

    Mrs Charles reiterated the need to be guided by Basic Infrastructure, Empowerment, Security Development and Transparency (BEST) Agenda in the execution of more projects and provision of selfless services to the people in the area.

    Earlier, the local government Council under her leadership had inaugurated Health Care facility at Ikot Antuk in Midim Clan, public convenience at Abak new market, and an administrative block housing the Traditional Rulers Council, NULGE and Agriculture offices on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

    The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, who inaugurated the projects, commended the Council boss for positively turning around the infrastructural fortunes of the area within her first 100 days on the saddle, describing her performance as satisfactory.

    Mr. Otong used the opportunity to thank the state governor for awarding construction of numerous road projects in Abak, and called on the people to support and cooperate with the council chairman to help her deliver more dividends of electioneering campaign in the area.

    In her remarks, Mrs Charles reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to changing the narrative of development in the area with viable infrastructures.

    Describing the feat in the first 100 days in office as a demonstration of her commitment to the service of the people, the council helmsman noted that the Health Care facility in particular was expected to provide care for the pregnant women, the elderly and children in the area.

    While thanking the Akwa Ibom state Governor, Pastor Umo Eno for his exemplary leadership, the Chairman promised to continue to work towards the development of Abak in line with the Arise Agenda of the Governor.

    Also speaking, the Managing Director of Akwa Ibom Property Investment Company (APICO), Barr. Patrick Udomfang commended the council chairman for emulating Governor Eno’s leadership style, saying the people were solidly behind the chairman to actualize her vision for Abak.

    In his goodwill message, the Paramount Ruler of Abak, Chief Akuku Saviour Sylvester, expressed appreciation to the council chairman, whom he said has exceeded expectations in three months, and hailed the renovation of the TRC office as well as embarking on other life-touching projects.

    Others at the massively attended event commended Hon. Charles’ commitment to the development of Abak and pledged unflinching support to her administration and BEST Agenda.
