More than 150 deaths resulting from the outbreak of cholera have been recorded in Nigeria’s Katsina state, the state’s Primary Health Care Development Agency has stated. Shamsudeen Yahaya, executive secretary, Katsina Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA), said the northern state has also recorded at least 5,677 reported cases since the outbreak of the disease in the state. Yahaya said the figures were gotten from hospitals and other primary health care centres in the state. Akwa Ibom Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping of Senator Nelson Effiong, who represented Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District in the eighth Senate. A petition has been sent to International Criminal Court, ICC, to investigate the growing cases of abduction of students in several parts of Northern Nigeria, particularly the recent abduction in Zamfara State. In its petition, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, also urged ICC to investigate the closure of schools, and the persistent failure of Nigerian authorities at both the Federal and State levels to end the abduction considered as crimes against humanity within the jurisdiction of the ICC.
