Akwa Ibom Government is said to have collected N280 billion as the 13 per cent crude oil derivation backlog from the Federal Government. The 13 per cent derivation backlog accrued from 1999 and was approved and released by President Muhammadu Buhari to the benefiting states in tranches. The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has sealed about 381 pharmacies and patent shops in Akwa Ibom State for various offences. The Director and Head of Enforcement Department, Pharm Stephen Esumobi, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Uyo on Friday, said most of the affected shops were sealed for operating without registration or renewal of premises certificates, unauthorized sales of medicines of abuse and poor access control to the poison cupboard. Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has spilled beans by naming the benefiting nine crude oil-producing states in the Niger Delta region that collected the 13% derivation monies backlog. The benefiting states are Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Abia, Edo, Delta, Ondo, Lagos, Imo, and Rivers States. The 13 percent derivation fund comes from the federation revenue to oil-producing communities through the state governments as enshrined in section 162, sub-section 2 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution (as amended). Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani has lamented that the present administration before getting into power pledged to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty. Nigerian relationship and marriage counselor, Blessing Okoro, has cautioned people to be wary of professional occupations some boys use to strike intimate relationship with married women and single girls.
